No marijuana even for medical use, says FDA

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) rejected the medical use of marijuana. It says that no sound scientific study supports it. Marijuana is not accepted in the United States for any cause. It is not an approved medical treatment as well. The FDA says that marijuana is a first step drug that leads users for more dangerous drugs. Finally they become addicted.

Earlier, eleven states have legally recognized medicinal uses of marijuana. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DAE) has opposed those efforts. A 1998 voter-approved plan legalized the medical marijuana. But marijuana still cannot be legally bought here.

Scientists doing research on the medical use of marijuana has a different view. They said that federal government has actively discouraged research into marijuana’s benefits. Marinol is a synthetic component of marijuana. It is approved to treat anorexia associated with AIDS and the nausea and vomiting associated with cancer drug therapy.
