New drug combination gets approval in U S for cervical cancer

GlaxoSmithKline Plc drug Hycamtin and the chemotherapy agent cisplatin together may treat women with cervical cancer. Food and Drug Administration has approved this new drug combination in U S. It can be used when surgery and radiation does not have any impact on the patients.

The drug combination is said to help patients to live about three months longer during experimentation. At the same time, both the drugs are separately approved to treat other cancers. According to the FDA, the duo-drug treatment will be used when the disease is not curable and at the risk to spread to other organs.
