More fruits but less meat keeps the colon cancer away: Study

eating fruits 64
If you want to keep colon cancer at bay then eating diet rich in fruit but low in meat may perhaps help you. Actually, a new study by the researchers at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, after tracking about 725 people, has come up with this notion.

These 725 people constituted into three groups- people who ate a lot of fruit but little meat, people who ate a lot of vegetables and a moderate amount of meat, and people who simply ate a lot of meat. After studying them researchers concluded that people with large or moderate consumption of meat were at 70 per cent higher risk of developing polyp while this percentage was quite lower in people with lots of fruit but littler meat consumption.

Interestingly, the percentage of people with polyp was just 18 per cent in those, claiming higher intake of fruits but little consumption of meat while percentage of people with polyp was 32 per cent in people with higher meat consumption.

Findings of this study are quite significant but one question still remains unanswered that was this low susceptibility to polyp due to higher fruit intake or due to lower consumption of meat. Here it is worth mentioning that previous studies have also linked consumption of fruits and vegetables with decreased risk of tumor and cancer growth. To have a better idea of this go through the following studies:-
