Stress-related illness nonattendance is costing employers very much. About one million workers take time off because of sickness each week in the UK. It cost more than £1bn a year for the Scottish economy too.
If companies provide healthy environment for their workforce they get improved business performance in return. Researchers at Glasgow University’s business management school for Scottish Enterprise have conducted a study, which revealed that the investment in worker’s health produces a four-fold return to the company performance.
The study shows that employees do not mind the twelve hour shifts if they get three days off. People fulfill the professional commitments if they get sufficient time for their family and health. It reduces stress and likely increases production capacity and concentration.
