A study done by the Texas Christian University has found that customizing your opinions or experiences so that it is similar to that of your date’s can affect how you recall actual things about yourself. In their study, people had to take a poll in which some of them had changed their answers to their questions. They did this after they had learnt that their answers did not match that of a good looking person’s answers. They had altered what they had originally chosen as their answer when they found out that a person with good looks had different answers.
The study also showed that when these people were told that that their dates were not real and this poll was merely an experiment, the people who had changed their answers did not remember what their original answers was.
Sara Brady the coauthor of this study explained that when people alter things about themselves with the intention of impressing their potential dates or partners, they actually end up confusing themselves about what the truth actually is. She said that whether you are talking about how much you love Shakespeare or your high school sports championships- the more you talk, the more your brain will start to believe it. She expresses that this could actually hurt you when your date discovers that you were not so good in sports in high school and cannot tell the difference between various Shakespearean plays.
The only obvious way to steer clear of trouble is to stick to the truth and hope that you appeal to her, a technique that was proved by a study by the University of Western Ontario. In this study the women had rated those men as ideal dates and has also perceived them as more handsome and physically fit when explained that they were honest in opposition to being deceitful.
During dates men do everything they can to impress their dates by trying to find and emphasize on the things that they have in common with them. If your stories are credible and if you give your date straight answers, you will seem more attractive and appealing to them, suggests the research. This is because women choose to trust honest men and are more comfortable with them. They keep honesty as one of the things that they look for their ideal man and won’t really care if he looks good or not.
