Health challenges in Bangladesh

Bangladesh is facing many problems while trying to counter the growing health hazards such as HIV. Other social issues like child marriage, women empowerment and the increasing population are adding heat to the health problems.

Under Secretary General of United Nations, Thoraya A Obaid, while visiting in Bangladesh, said that the younger generation as well as the elders should be made aware of the dangers of HIV. Less reporting, limited voluntary testing and counseling capacity is being hurdle to continue the awareness programs of UN.

There are many challenges before Bangladesh to meet Millenium Development Goal (MDG) adopted by General Assembly. An official statistics says about 14,000 Bangladeshi women die from complications of pregnancy and childbirth each year. Fistula causes the deaths of thousands of Bangladeshi women every year. Stopping the early marriages is necessary to swab fistula from the country.
