Health budget ignores important issues: AMA

The Australian Medical Association (AMA) criticized the federal government on the Budget’s focus on health. It says that the government has failed to make any impact on the health care sector in terms of grants.

AMA president, Dr. Mukesh Haikerwal says that indigenous health and obesity have been ignored. According to him,

‘Australians still go through one of the worst health standards and living conditions in the world.’

There are nothing for public hospitals and rural health as well in this Budget. He further says that there is the lack of support for overseas-trained doctors and the support for rehabilitation is very minimal.

It has avoided the importance of infrastructure and health system for the ageing population and children. At the same time, Dr. Haikerwal confirms about some positive moves in aged care services and mental health too.
