Project I Famagu'on-Ta begins children mental health care program

Project I Famagu’on-Ta has provided care to more than 160 children suffering from severe emotional and behavior difficulties on Guam during last four years. Now, organizers are looking to make residents more aware of disorders that are not easily detected.

The Project lashed out National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day with an art and poetry exhibit. ‘Thriving in the community’ is the theme for events programmed for May, the Mental Health Month.

The program works with youth of ages 5 to 21, who suffer from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, attention deficit disorder, depression or other behavioral disorders.

The issue will be highlighted throughout the year. The project people need to be sensitive and flexible when dealing with children who have these behavioral conditions. Early identification may be a key to make them socialize with others.
