Finding a diet suitable for HPV treatment

HPV aka the genital human papilomavirus is one of the most common STDs on the planet today. The condition is said to affect sexually active people, with more than half of them facing risks of getting infected by one or more types of HPV during their lifetime. The alarming thing is that out of the 150 related viruses that constitute HPV, over 40 of them can spread from one person to person via direct skin contact during sexual intercourse. Women in particular are more at risk of being infected by the virus, which is known to cause conditions like cervical cancer in the long run. As such, it is imperative that one identifies the various ways in which HPV can be treated effectively, including the dietary considerations mentioned below.

Cruciferous Vegetables


Many studies have related the treatment of HPV with plant based foods. Cruciferous vegetables in particular are known to contain an ingredient called indole-3 carbinol that helps prevent the development and spread of cervical cancer. The phytochemicals present in these vegetables also help get rid of the infected cells in order to curb the infection from spreading to other healthy cells. The vegetables that one can add to the diet in this case include brussels, broccoli, cabbage, kale and sprouts.

It is considered wise to eat anti cancer foods that contain plenty of carotenoids or their derivatives like lutein, lycopene and beta-cryptoxanthin which are anti-carcogenic. Foods that contain selenium, Vitamin C and Vitamin E can be consumed on a regular basis to treat HPV and cancer. Some of the food choices one would need to opt for in this case include carrots, spinach, citrus fruits, eggs and pumpkins.

Foods Rich in Vitamin C


Vitamin C is the perfect immune booster the body would need to fight off the cancerous cells as well as the HPV infection. Regular intake of Vitamin C has been noted to cure HPV within a very short span of time. Hence, it is recommended that one eats foods rich in Vitamin C to treat HPV. These include broccoli, kiwi, oranges, papayas, kale, berries, peas, oranges and red/yellow bell peppers.

Whole grains

Individuals suffering from HPV are therefore advised to consume whole grains in the form of pastas, breads and cereals made of whole wheat. It is also considered wise to opt for brown rice, corn, oatmeal, buckwheat, wild rice, seeds and nuts when suffering from HPV.

Foods rich in Antioxidants


Antioxidants are guaranteed to help different kinds of HPV, including the type that causes warts on the skin surface. Antioxidants help fight of cancer causing free radicals from the body on a regular basis. Hence, consuming foods rich in antioxidants would protect the body from the effects of the free radicals for prolonged periods. Some of the food choices one would want to opt for in this case include green tea, peaches, artichokes, spinach and berries.


HPV is a sexually transmitted disease that is considered the precursor to cancer, especially in women. In order to combat the virus and flush it from the system, it is imperative that one follows the dietary considerations mentioned above. This would help treat HPV in a timely manner.
