Enzyme 'Akt1' raises hope of better tumor vaccine!

Researchers at Baylor College of Medicine have exhibited that enzyme Akt1 could play a significant role in boosting the effect of tumor vaccines by extending the lives of cells called dendritic. Dentritic cells promote the response of T-cells that attack tumors.

Throwing light on the positive impact of this, Dr. David Spencer, associate professor of immunology at BCM said, ‘By keeping the dendritic cells alive longer, you extend the window of activation, promoting the desirable immune response, which in the case of cancer, is the expansion of T-cells.’ Before promulgating this idea, researchers went through a long study in which they did some experiments on lab mice.

This study really brings out some interesting facts that give air to the belief that still there is a considerable hope to eradicate life-threatening tumors.
