Eating spicy food

Colostomy Diet is the way to go if you’ve had Colostomy recently. Colostomy is a surgical process that creates a connection between skin and colon. It is most usually recommended to the patients suffering from colon cancer. Patients are advised to follow a particular diet which is known as Colostomy Diet.

The diet is simple to understand and follow. You need to consider few foods as the major inclusion in your diet plan till the time you recover from surgery. On the other hand, you must avoid few foods to make the diet work efficiently.

Foods to Avoid

Dairy foods, high fiber foods, raw vegetables, brown rice, popcorn, corn meals, peels of fruits, lentils, peas, beans, nuts, cookies, pies, sweets, cakes, cauliflower, eggs, garlic, onions, fish, bananas, apple sauce, fried food, high fat products, tapioca, white bread, mashed potatoes, peanut butter, cheese, cranberry juice, butter milk, white rice and yogurt are the foods to eat in lesser quantities and less frequently. It is preferred to avoid these foods completely.

Foods to Include

Spicy foods
, beer, fatty foods, leafy vegetables and prunes are good to include if the constipation condition becomes unbearable. You are advised to drink lot of water daily. Have other fluids as well such as jello, soups, tea, honey, sport drinks and broth. Don’t include milk and soda drinks in your diet.

Sample Colostomy Diet Plan

Breakfast

  • 1 cup of soy milk
  • 2 cups of white pasta

Snack

  • Omelet with inclusion of 2 egg whites and 2tbs grates cheese
  • 2 cups of lemonade

Lunch

  • 1 cup of fruit salad
  • 1 small roll bread

Snack

  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup of strained vegetable juice

Dinner

  • 2 cups of white rice
  • 8oz orange juice

Snack

  • 2 whole graham crackers
  • Handful prunes

It is advised to have small quantity of food in each meal. Chew your food properly and eat slowly. Be punctual in eating meals at the fixed time. Fluids are important in this diet so consume them in huge amount.
