Celeb cigarette ads preying on teenagers

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration statistics vomit out:

Today alone, more than 4,400 US teenagers will start smoking.

Experts also believe that the fundamental reason behind adolescents resorting to smoking is that they watch their favorite stars puffing out smoke on televisions. A University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine study indicates that the cigarette companies’ advertisements were falling flat on those teenagers who were well aware of the publicity stunt of such companies. On the other hand, those kids who were not well aware of this aspect they sooner developed smoking habit.

Therefore, experts think that SML (Smoking Media literacy) training could be an effective intervention to decrease teen smoking.

More and more teenagers and school-going students should be taught about SML so that the trend of smoking, especially in teenagers may be curbed.
