Chinese herbal medicines may be unhealthy

The UK’s Trading Standards Institute has warned that some Chinese made traditional medicines may contain arsenic, mercury or poisonous plants. It is suspected to be prepared from some dying out species such as tiger bone or rhino horn. It may be health hazardous.

Chinese medicines usually made from a combination of herbs, minerals, animal and plant components. Some medicines are taken orally while others are used on the skin or hair.

The TSI warns to avoid shopping the products without label. The London Trading Standards Authorities have started educating consumers as well as traders in UK about the risks. They are becoming strict on illegal Chinese medicines also.
