China needs better management for organ transplants

China, world’s second leading country for conducting organ transplants, has a recovery rate lagging behind the global level. China needs to improve execution and rules of human organ transplant. It has to improve the recovery rate as well among transplant patients.

According to the health officials, the bad managing of organ sources, sharing, registration and monitoring of transplant patients cause apprehension in the health sector. China is now planning to set up self regulation machinery to help health departments for regulating organ transplants.

About two million Chinese need transplants each year and only 20,000 operations are conducted. There is a sharp shortage of organs which results in an illegal organ trade.

The Ministry of Health issued a provisional regulation to ban the sale of organs and to tighten approval standards for transplant with effect from July 1.
