Children should know about parents' identity

Children should have or should not have the right to know their genetic parents, is a burning question in the medical world as well as organs of Human Rights. However this right has been introduced in Britain last year. Ireland hasn’t confirm this law as yet. Dr Deirdre Madden, member of the Commission on Assisted Human Reproduction (CAHR), says that people should have the right to track down their biological parents.

She thinks on psychological and emotional point of view that the child, who is the product of egg or sperm donation, should be able to know who the parent is.

Dr Madden will participate in a one-day conference in University College Cork next Friday. She will deliver a speech on this issue. She has a plan to speak about the legal issues adjoining embryo custody and the lack of guideline governing assisted human reproduction.
