Cheap TB drug to fight against HIV and AIDS!

The spread of HIV/AIDS can be embanked, especially amongst kids, if they are provided with cheap anti-tuberculosis drugs like ‘Isoniazid’ and ‘Bactrim’, according to a new study conducted in Cape Town.

During the course of study, about 300 HIV-infected children were provided with the drug isoniazid and they were asked to have it either daily or three times a week along with Bactrim. This experiment saw ‘a 50 percent reduction in deaths and a 70 percent reduction in the incidence of TB amongst children under study.

Western Cape is the place that is known to have the highest incidents of TB in the world and if we look at the whole scenario in the light of the latest results of the study, it naturally comes to mind that use of such medicines would be just like having two strings in one bow because whereas this medicine will cure patients with TB, it will also prove a weapon in their arsenal to fight deadly HIV/AIDS.
