Bubonic plague reported in Los Angeles

A woman in Los Angeles County has contracted bubonic plague. This is reported as the first human case in the county since 1984. One to 20 cases are found in the US each year. The woman came down with symptoms last week official investigation is under way.

Bubonic plague is contracted by being bitten by an infected flea or rodent. It should be suspected when a person develops a swollen gland, fever, chills, headache, and extreme exhaustion.
