‘Bone marrow cells cannot reverse sterility’, Harvard University researchers say.
This is opposite to a recent Massachusetts General Hospital study claim that bone marrow cells may reverse infertility in women.
According to the researchers of Harvard University bone marrow do not form oocytes in female. Dr Amy Wagers, the chief investigator says that the research data reveals transplant bone marrow cells are improbable to contribute to fertilizable oocytes in transplant recipients.
He said further that the research suggested ways to make transplants more effective and less toxic that may have applications in treating diabetes. The detail of the study is published in ‘Nature’.
