A new form of heart transplant was performed for the first time in UK. In this new technique, the donor heart keeps beating on transportation. It may two-fold increase the number of heart transplant every year.
This ‘Beating Heart Transplant’ carried out at Papworth hospital, in Cambridge, Southern England, on May 22. The patient is well recovered now. Earlier this kind of transplant has been executed three times in Germany.
Chris Rudge, managing and transplant director of “UK transplant,” explained the operation as a completely momentous development. An American company ‘Transmedics’ has developed the device, ‘organ care system’, which helps the donor’s heart to keep beating.
