Baby Diet

Babies need to have a specific diet. The nourishment requirement of babies changes after every couple of months. It is important to provide your baby with the required nutrition. Babies are entirely dependent on the parents for food. Being a parent, it’s your duty to formulate an appropriate Baby Diet for your little one.

Baby Diet

In addition to baby formula and breast milk, babies need other solid foods to ensure development at each stage.

 4 – 6 Months

  • Babies should be fed on single-grain cereals during this stage. Fortified cereals provide iron. It is an essential nutrient that the baby needs in this stage. Babies are born with an iron reserve that starts to disappear after 6 months. These cereals can come in handy at this stage.

Preparation: You may mix breast milk, water or baby formula on occasion.

6 – 8 Months

  • Strained or pureed fruits such as apricots, pears, bananas, and apples should be the main diet in this phase.

Preparation: You must wash all the fruits. You can boil, steam, or bake them until they become soft. Use a blender to mix fruits and breast milk, water, or baby formula.

  • You can also go for strained or pureed vegetables such as potatoes, peas, squash, carrots and avocados.

Preparation: The preparation can be done the same as fruits.

  • You can provide your baby with pea-sized pieces of cooked meat such as chicken or turkey. Boneless fish and beans like lentils, red, black or pinto can also be included in the diet.

Preparation: You may cut the fish or meat in small pieces and cook them. Mash or cut beans and cook them.

8 – 10 Months

  • Mashed fruits and vegetables should be given priority.

Preparation: There is no need to puree them. You may cook the fruits and veggies to the point they become so soft that it becomes easy to mash them.

  • Start giving your kid dairy foods such as cottage cheese and yogurt. You may cut the cheese into small pieces for this purpose.
  • Eggs can be given in the form of hard-boiled, scrambled, or cut into small pieces.

10 – 12 Months

  • You can provide your kid with most of the foods in this stage. All you need to do is to make sure that all food items are cut into small pieces and are soft to chew. Avoid giving honey to your babies.
