Appetite controlling device – Worth all the pain?

So, you are overweight and obese and nothing can motivate you to get off the couch to exercise and nothing can stop you from giving in to the temptations of dumping extra servings of food on your plate but you still want to lose that flab without putting in extra efforts. So, what do you do?

Well, UK scientists have come up with a device that controls your appetite and in the process help you lose weight. The device is implanted in the wall of your stomach and the electrodes from the device is designed to stimulate the nerves in your tummy and send signals to your brain that you are full and can’t have more food.

The device is about the size of a mobile phone and is implanted into the body under general anesthesia. A rechargeable pulse generator is placed under the skin and an external portable charger is used to charge the generator. The wiring of the six implanted electrodes is tunneled under the skin and two electrodes placed high up in the stomach pick up the electrical signals from the muscles as you begin to eat. The rest of the four electrodes implanted in the lower part of your tummy breaks down the food and signals to the brain that the body is full preventing you from stuffing that extra morsel into your mouth.

Well, doesn’t the whole idea sound scary? Imagine charging the electrodes often and carrying it along to a restaurant and charging yourself before you order from the menu! Folks, it takes a little effort to get off the couch and say no to that extra serving, but believe me, it’s fat better than carrying that extra weight of those scary implants.
