Anti-epileptic drugs may be harmful for the growing fetus

An UK study revealed that those babies who were born to epileptic mothers were safe, despite the fact their mothers took AEDs to check the epileptic seizures. Another study showed that babies whose mothers used the anti-epileptic drug sodium valporate were more vulnerable to anatomical abnormalities and lower IQ’s.
Now, the doctors treating pregnant women with epileptic disorders have to keep a check of the effect of drugs on the development of foetus especially its brain.
