The War of the Smart Phones – Samsung inadvertently promotes their rival iPhone 5 in a recent ad

The war between Samsung and Apple wages on, for control of the high-end smart phone market. The latest in the string of attacks came from the former when Samsung inadvertently promoted the Apple iPhone 5 in a recent print ad, while actually trying to showcase the superiority of their offering, the Galaxy SIII over the Apple product.

After a recent Facebook campaign backfired, with most people choosing the iPhone over the Galaxy, Samsung was clearly out for blood.

Samsung had asked their Facebook fans, what electronic device they would take with them, if they were only allowed to pick one, on a deserted island. Samsung was left red-faced when the majority of their followers said that they would much rather have an iPhone or iPad with them rather than the Galaxy SIII which was blatantly advertised in the same post, in a bid to perhaps steer responses. One can only guess that the recent print ad which draws direct comparisons between the iPhone 5 and the SIII, is an attempt to massage the damaged egos on the Samsung end.

The ad in question showcases both the Apple iPhone5 and the Galaxy SIII, two heavyweights in the high-end smart phone market and compares their features side by side. Samsung manage to redeem themselves somewhat by showing that their product clearly holds the edge in terms of the main technical specifications like screen size, resolution, battery backup and RAM. Just to drive home their point, it seems, Samsung have also thrown in a few cosmetic features into the comparison which no one really cares about, such as Palm Touch Mute Pause and Turn Over to Mute.

Although some may frown upon Samsung’s underhanded use of a direct comparison in order to prove they have the better product, Apple might not be too upset about the free publicity that they are getting thanks to their rival. Which phone would you like to own – the Apple iPhone 5 or the Samsung Galaxy SIII? I, for one, wouldn’t mind either!
