Dell Inspiron 15 7000 series: Review

Dell has tried to balance its Inspiron 7000 Series by adding to it the new Inspiron 15 7000 laptops. While the company has mostly focused on entry-level and home users through its Inspiron laptops, it has shifted the focus this time to premium users.

Appearance

With a professional and classy look, Dell Inspiron 15 7000 laptops display a premium design. The models in this laptop series flaunt aluminum chassis and diamond-cut edges. Having a 15.6-inch touch screen, an Inspiron 15 7000 laptop looks sleek and cool with its silvery aluminum lid. Its minimalistic interiors are also appealing. The laptop’s edge-to-edge display is protected using Gorilla Glass. About the display, we can say that it is too glossy and reflective. Although the base model offers a display resolution of 1366×768, it is terrible with its color reproduction and viewing angles. While the build and design are strong, the laptop’s display hampers its quality.

Performance

While the lower model of Inspiron 15 7000 series has an Intel Core i5-4200U processor and 6 GB RAM, the higher model comes with a Core i7-4500U processor and 8 GB RAM. The lower model offers a 500 GB hard drive and the higher model provides a 1 TB hard drive. Both models include a dedicated GDDR5 video memory of 2 GB and discreet Nvidia GeForce GT 750M graphics processor. While both the models have powerful specifications, they lack on the screen resolution front. However, you receive effective sound output through Waves MaxxAudio Pro. You also receive good battery life from a 58WHr removable battery installed in Inspiron 15 7000 laptops. You get proper connectivity through all regular modes, including Wi-Fi b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0. Overall, Inspiron 15 7000 is a power-packed device.

Ease of use

Inspiron 15 7000 is not very portable due to its weight. Although it appears sleek, its 5.6-pound weight makes it bulky for many users. Additionally, it may annoy you with its wobble while opening and closing the lid. You may also be disappointed with its keyboard, as some important keys are missing or unmarked. Although the track pad and number pad are spacious enough, you may find them improperly placed. Thus, it becomes a little difficult to adapt to this system for those who type a lot. Otherwise, the rest of the features support a good use of the device.

Support services

Dell offers some of its useful tools with the laptop. It also preloads the device with McAfee Security Center and Microsoft Office Trial. Thus, you get a few useful support tools on your purchase.

Value for money

Dell Inspiron 15 7000 laptop will cost you a little more than $1,100. While you get a good design, build and specifications in this device, its price does not justify the low screen resolution and usage troubles. Thus, this model is recommendable only when you require high specs and performance.
