Young Women 'Out-Drinking Men' in UK

While it%u2019s a relief that alcohol consumption in southern Mediterranean
countries is falling, drinking is rising alarmingly in northern Europe.
Compared to other European countries, young women are out-drinking men
of the same age in the UK. Thus, liver disease is now likely to appear
at a much earlier age! %u2013 according to Professor Moira Plant of Bristol
University.

Liver damages are now developing dramatically in young women in their
late teens and early 20s! Compared to that in the past, liver problems
were not being seen until the age of 60 or 70. If young women in
Britain continued to drink in this way, they could present problems for
the health service in the future, Professor of Alcohol Studies
Professor Plant warned.
