Xolair to carry stronger label warnings: FDA

xolair 64Reports regarding asthma drug Xolair were already in the air and now taking cognizance of these reactions, which include life-threatening reaction known as anaphylaxis, FDA has come forward ordering stronger label warnings for this asthma medication.

A patient with anaphylaxis might face problems like trouble during breathing, feeling of tightness in the chest, dizziness, itching and even swelling in mouth and throat.

According to this new label warning:

Doctors should observe patients for at least two hours after the drug is injected and be ready to manage a potentially life-threatening reaction.

Anaphylaxis can occur even if a patient did not react to a previous Xolair injection. Anaphylaxis can occur up to 24 hours after the injection is given.

Patients using Xolair should be prepared for to treat themselves for anaphylaxis in emergencies.

Interestingly, FDA has taken this step after some delay because despite the fact that its side effects were already confounding doctors as well as patients, still, FDA’s this move is commendable.
