Washing your garments and bedding in hot water may prove beneficial for your health

A recent study highlights the benefits of using hot water to wash laundry. Hot water having a temperature of about 140 degrees Fahrenheit is not only effective in tackling dog dander and pollens but also in getting rid of 100% of the dust mites by killing them. The use of a lower temperature of about 36 degrees Fahrenheit was however, not so successful and killed only 6.5% of the dust mites.

For people who are concerned about using hot water for their subtle laundry need not worry, the solution lies in using water heated to about 86-104 degrees Fahrenheit to wash the laundry, which is immediately followed by rinsing with cold water twice. Each of the rinsing steps should last for about three minutes each. This method is also handy in removing allergens or substances from your laundry that may pose some kind of health concern.

This study, which was presented at the 103rd International Conference of the American Thoracic Society in San Francisco also states that as much as 90% of dog dander and 97% of pollen were removed from the laundry when hot water was used as opposed to warm water (86-104 degrees Fahrenheit) which removed 60% of dog dander and 69-95% of pollens. The use of steam like hot water to clean sheets is also effective way of getting rid of pollens, dog dander and dust mites.
