Tips to help live a healthy life despite of diabetes

Diabetes whether it is Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes is a cause for concern. If you want to live a healthy life despite of having diabetes then you will have to take proper care. Very basic things which every normal person needs to do to stay healthy also applies to a diabetic patient apart from other specific things that they need to monitor on regular basis.

Let us now look at things you can do to stay healthy even if you have diabetes:

1. Follow the diet schedule: Needs of every individual are different and doctor must have given you a diet schedule to follow. If you find it difficult to keep track then try to maintain food diary.

2. Learn about healthy food: The food you take should be a combination of grains, fruits, fish, starchy vegetables and low sodium condiments.

4. Do exercises: Everyday do at least twenty to thirty minutes of exercises. You can join a gym or go for morning walks, discuss your options with the doctor and then start following it on a regular basis. In case weight is a problem then things like aqua jogging or walking in the pool can also be options to explore.

5. Take medication regularly: It is necessary to take medication in right dosage as well as on time. Check with your doctor about other drugs you are taking so that possible interaction between them can be ascertained beforehand without having to face complications later on.


6. Record habitually: Usually doctor gives a record sheet for recording levels of blood glucose on regular basis. Even if it feels like a boring task, you should do it. This way doctor will be able to track your progress and take necessary steps accordingly.

7. Monitor for complications: If you know about the complications that are common in diabetes then you will be in a better position to take actions against them. Some common problems include heart and kidney diseases like heart attack and kidney failure, diabetic neuropathy, gastroparesis, depression, vision problems and gum diseases. 

You can follow a healthy lifestyle even with diabetes but the main thing is to follow discipline in life and have a positive attitude. Proper medication plus exercises and the right food habits can go a long way in helping you live a normal life.
