Study: Cashews trigger more severe allergies in children than peanuts

cashews worse than peanuts for allergiesIf your child has a tendency to develop allergies from nuts, it is not that peanut-based cookies or chocolates which are only to be blamed – but also be aware of the perhaps ‘more notorious’ cashews.

Yes, your child may be more severely and seriously allergic to cashews, as has been found out recently by a study.

Do you know, a child who is allergic to cashew, suffers eight times more reactions, like – wheezing?

Not just that! Compared to peanuts, children are also nearly 14 times more likely to have potentially severe cardiovascular symptoms, like heartbeat disturbances or a drop in blood pressure.

It has been found that 10 percent of the children with cashew allergies suffer severe reactions like extreme breathing difficulty and/or loss of consciousness! To add to this worrisome finding, the study suggests that allergies with cashews among children are increasingly becoming more common.

This is simply because of the increase in the nuts’ consumption across the world, with its being used in a range of desserts and candies, especially in many Asian dishes. Even those pesto sauces found in the market have cashews in them.

To practically reduce the allergy-risk among children, stringent laws on mentioning the products’ ‘composition’ need to be imposed – as all cashew-based products can’t be taken off altogether from the market across the world.
