Soft Food Diet is usually recommended by doctors when patients have difficulty in swallowing the food due to mouth or jaw injury and gastrointestinal tract. The diet is much more than jelly and soup so it does not have to be boring.

Soft Food Diet Explained

Dieters are recommended to introduce plenty of variety to make sure you receive all kinds of nutrition while you eat only soft foods. Try to construct your diet menu around the below-mentioned food options:

  • Minimum 5 serving of well-cooked veggies and soft fruit
  • 2 servings of dairy food and milk
  • 2 servings of meat, fish, or poultry without bones. Include peas, lentils, beans or eggs
  • A small number of foods containing sugar or fat
  • Rice, pasta, potato, cereals or bread in each meal
  • Minimum 10 cups of fluid per day including major water whereas juice, milk, tea or coffee can also be consumed

  • Cereals or porridge with milk

Main Meal Options

  • Stew and casseroles made from lean meats and cooked till it becomes tender
  • Cottage or shepherds pie along with gravy
  • Soup containing plenty of legumes and vegetables. Puree it with the swirl of cream
  • Lasagne or moussaka with gravy or sauce
  • Fish pie containing potato topping
  • Baked fish with gravy or sauce
  • Tuna or egg mayonnaise
  • Lentils
  • Cheese omelet
  • Cauliflower cheese
  • Dips like cream cheese, hummus, and guacamole
  • Pasta made from small pasta shapes with sauce

Snack Options

  • Mashed potatoes made from sweet potatoes
  • Mashed veggies including root veggies like carrots and turnip
  • Cauliflower or broccoli florets cooked till enough soft to swallow easily

Dessert Options

  • Milky pudding made from tapioca, semolina or rice
  • Egg custard or crème caramel
  • Fruit mousse
  • Greek yogurt
  • Mashed fruit along ice cream, evaporated milk or custard
