SHORT men are more likely to be sexually attracted to children than their taller peers, according to a new Canadian study of the biological roots of pedophilia.
This is likely the result of exposure to “pre-birth conditions” that affected pedophiles’ physical development, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health reported in Sexual Abuse: A Journal of Research and Treatment. Lead researcher James Cantor claims that the research results however, does not mean that pedophiles are not criminally responsible for their behavior. Similar height differences can be found in men who crave sex with pubescent teenagers, say study researchers, who speculate the link between stature and pedophilia might be traced to conditions in the womb.
The research proved to have important implications for future study and possibly treatment. By analyzing the files of more than 1000 men who were assessed for pedophilia or other sexual disorders in Toronto between 1995 and 2006, researchers observed that pedophilic males were 2cm shorter on average than males who were not sexually attracted to children. This height difference was a trait found in other illnesses with biological links, similar in scope to the shorter height associated with schizophrenia or Alzheimer’s disease.
The same scientific team previously found that pedophiles “have lower IQs, are three times more likely to be left-handed, failed school grades more frequently, and suffered more head injuries as children.”.
Counter-arguments
Pedophilia expert Dr. Fred Berlin, founder of the Johns Hopkins Sexual Disorder Clinic in Baltimore, called the study interesting, but said it left room for doubt. Berlin added that the study did not look at the height of parents, and so there is a small possibility they could have shorter mothers and fathers. He also said there was a chance shorter stature may have made the study subjects targets for teasing, and that their condition was psychologically induced in childhood.
I personally find pedophiles to be despicable people, but this research seems unbelievable. It is obvious that the large majority of short people are not molesters. Do I foresee a time when we will round up all short men and imprison them to save the children? I hope not. I seriously hope short men are given room to roam.
