Scientists develop Alzheimer's damage-reversing chemical

an alzheimers patient

Do you know, every 72 seconds, someone develops Alzheimer’s?! — the neurodegenerative disease, unfortunately making it the most common form of dementia among older people.

With more than 5 million people in the United States alone living with Alzheimer’s, the disease directly and indirectly costs more than $148 billion annually!

To battle the brain-cells killing disease, the medical fraternity are up with arms across the world. Amidst, this search, a team of doctors in Scotland has achieved a new dimension in curing Alzheimer’s as well as ‘reversing damage’ already caused by the disease! – It is a chemical capable of preventing Alzheimer’s from killing the brain cells.

That sounds interesting and effective! The disease kills brain cells, which in turn leads to memory loss and other symptoms.

Though, still there are, perhaps, several years left in developing the compound into a drug for human use, once successful, the drug would definitely be able to block the nerve cell interaction – which lead to the disease’s symptoms.

Leader of the research, Dr Frank Gunn-Moore, a senior lecturer at the University’s School of Biology said,

We have shown that it is possible to reverse some of the signs associated with Alzheimer’s disease. Our research holds a possible key for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, particularly in its early stages.

The devastating disease, which affects more than 500,000 people in the UK alone, will surely get a ‘Holy Grail’ cure with this possible new treatment.
