Role of diet for healthy living?

hello everyone! I am 42 years old and I have been suffering from high blood pressure for the last 2 years now. I do not smoke and nor do I drink. Then what could this high blood pressure problem be all about? I do have a heavy meal at lunch time and at dinner. My meals are often composed of high calorie foods and meat. Could my heavy meals be responsible for my high blood pressure? I would like to know about the role of diet for a healthy living?
