Pigs Cloned to Produce Healthy Pork

We all know seafood is healthy. But, now you put pigs in your healthy-diet list. They are no ordinary pigs, but are genetically modified ones, which the researchers report to be as healthy as seafood!

Pigs are cloned to genetically express higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids. It is a type of natural oil that is thought to fight heart disease and various immune disorders! These oils are typically found in fish and hence considered healthy. The premise of the work is published recently in the online journal Nature Biotechnology.

But, the tricked-up pork may not appear in supermarkets anytime soon as concerns over food safety and the U.S. federal approval process are not yet attained.
