Passive smoking increases risk for dementia by 30%

secondhand smoke doubles risk for dementia 9

If you are tired and disappointed urging your spouse to quit smoking, here is a convincing, rather a serious, reason for him to do so. It has recently been discovered that people living with a smoker for more than 30 years, develop the risk of dementia by 30 percent, compared to those who have never lived with a smoker.

And, if you have already developed the disease, leading from clogged arteries that run to the brain, the situation, unfortunately, is even worse, researcher Tad Haight, MA, senior statistician at the University of California at Berkeley warns.

Though, the study finds a link between passive smoking and dementia, it doesn’t speak of the former’s leading to memory disorder. And, it is neither that everyone exposed to smoke for such longer a period will develop dementia. It is that, smoking increases the risk of the disease by 30 percent.

So, either kick your smoking habit out, or leave your better half to suffer from dementia – the choice is yours.
