Painkillers double risk of subsequent heart attacks

If you have survived a heart attack, do not take certain kinds of painkillers. It will put you at the immediate risk of repeat attack. It may lead you to death also.

COX-2 inhibitors, Vioxx, ibuprofen or diclofenac are some of the painkillers that cause the instant repeat of stroke.

Dr. Gunnar H. Gislason has said in the American Heart Association that COX-2 inhibitors and nonselective NSAIDS should be used with proper caution and observation in patients who suffered prior attack.

The study has showed that even a low dose of a COX-2 inhibitor doubled the risk of dying. It increases the risk of another stroke by 50 percent. The higher doses put the mortality risk at five time’s higher risk.

High doses of NSAIDs daily, risk of dying may go up to two to four times. The risk of another heart attack increases by 22 to 89 percent.
