Paedophilia may be a result of faulty brain wiring according to a new research. The study published in the Journal of Psychiatry Research found that convicted paedophiles had significantly less ‘white matter’ in their brains. White matter is composed of message carrying nerve fibers that wire different parts of the brain together.
127 men took part in the study comprising of equal numbers of paedophiles and non-sexual offenders. The findings contradict earlier belief that paedophilia is triggered by childhood trauma.
It has further been observed that paedophiles have low IQs, three times more likely than average to be left-handed and are often of short stature. Scientists say that more research needs to be conducted to find how the brain governs sexual interests.
