How does muscle weigh more than fat?

I am an 18 years old stout young man with a height of 5.9″. I am quite perplexed with my weight loss these days! I have joined a gym recently, and I workout for an hour, three days a week. I have observed that even after intense exercises at gym, I am not really able to see any changes in my weight. Nonetheless, my clothes fit me better and they are fitting way loser indeed! My fitness trainer remarked that it was weight of muscles that I reduced at gym, and honestly, I don’t have an inkling about it! Could someone please tell me, how does muscle weigh more than fat? I would really appreciate a prudent response. Thanks.
