Neuroscientists in a recent report have said that moderate drinking has a positive effect on the mental health of a person. Moderate consumption, is frequently defined as the consumption of one to four alcoholic drinks in a day, depending to a large extent on the age and gender of the subjects.
Unlike previously thought, moderate drinking does not destroy brain cells and is beneficial to the vascular system.
Physical tests like climbing stairs etc, when conducted on men who drank between 7 and 20 drinks per week, revealed that they scored slightly better on these tests than abstainers and heavy drinkers. Men, who performed the best, were those who drank between 7 and 14 drinks per week.
Medical research has shown that alcohol intake in moderate amounts, increases the good cholesterol (HDL), decreases thrombosis, increases clot dissolving abilities (fibrinolysis), as well as, improves the coronary blood flow.
According to the World Health Organization, there is a positive relationship between moderate alcohol consumption and heart disease. Red wine is a hot favorite, because it is rich in antioxidants, which are thought to be good for the heart.
So, don’t feel guilty anymore, enjoy your red wine and improve your cardiovascular system!
