Government of India is planning to involve Unani and other India Systems of medicines in the coming seventh Plan (2007-11). According to a member of Planning Commission, these systems will be involved in the rural health scheme of the country.
Dr Syeda Hameed, member (health) Planning Commission, said,
Government has supported Indian System of medicines always. More steps are necessary now to move forward. The eleventh Plan has more schemes to introduce, related to this improvement. Plant-based medicines are perfect for India because these are effortlessly accessible and inexpensive.
The National Rural Health Mission has already the provision to induct two experts from Indian Systems of Medicine. Now government is ready to do some progressive works to use the Indian medicine and treatment systems in rural areas.
