Complexity Level: Moderate

Time Required: 30 to 45 minutes

Estimated Cost: 2$ to 5$

Resources Required:
1. Gentle cleanser
2. Exfoliating scrub
3. Warm water and a wash cloth
4. Creme facial mask or clay based facial mask (depending on your skin type)
5. Moisturizer

Instructions:

1. Cleansing the skin:

This is the first step of your facial. Clean your skin very well with a good cleanser or a face wash. Make sure all the dirt and impurities are washed off and any makeup left over from the previous night’s party should also be removed completely. Scrub your face gently for about a minute before washing it off to get the desired results from the cleanser. After that, wash away the cleanser entirely.

2. Exfoliating the skin:

This is a very vital step. Exfoliation removes the dirt from inside the pores of your skin where the cleanser cannot reach. An exfoliating scrub washes away the dead skin and leaves the pores open for your next step. A very careful selection of scrub is needed here. Sensitive skin should not be done with a harsh scrub. Take the scrub on your finger tips and massage in a circular, upward motion. After about two minutes, wash off with mild water.

3. Steam the skin:

Steaming the skin helps in opening the pores completely. The hot steams cleanses your skin further. There are a number of ways you can steam up the skin. You can fill your wash basin with warm water, dip a cloth in it and put that on the face. Repeat this for a few times. You can also put your face over a bowl of hot, steaming water, the face covered with a towel. The towel locks the steam inside. Alternatively, buy a steaming machine!

4. Mask it up

Use a mask that suits your skin. You will find a variety of masks in the market. Herbal ones are the best when it comes to commercial skin products. A fruit one will do good for dry skin, a lemon one will do for oily skin and as for normal skin types, any mask will do. Apply the mask on the entire face and neck. Let it dry naturally for about 10 to 20 minutes and then wash it off completely.

5. Moisturize your skin:

After washing your face, pat it dry with a clean towel. Again, apply a suitable moisturizer and massage really well. The more time you massage, the more your skin will take in the moisture and its ingredients. And that’s it! You are done!

Frequently asked questions:

Can I make a facial mask or cream at home?

Yes, take any fruit and mix it with water, milk, creme, oatmeal powder, sandalwood powder, turmeric etc. All these items are extremely good for your skin, AGAIN, depending on your skin type. Fruits like papaya, bananas and tomatoes work very well with any skin type and you will see the results immediately!

Quick Tips:

  1. For those of you who have oily skins, make sure you either use less moisturizer or use moisturizers with less moisture in them
  2. For people with dry skin, use the opposite. A good moisture filled moisturizer will help a lot!
  3. If you want, you can also keep the scrub after massaging for a minute, like the mask.

Things to watch out for:

  1. Do not exfoliate or steam damaged or burnt skin.
  2. Do not do any of the steps to your eye area. The area below and above your eyes is very sensitive.
  3. People with dry skin should not use the steam for long. Firstly, you do not need that extreme cleaning and secondly, it will take away all the limited moisture from the skin.
