A desperate wait for HIV vaccine in Africa

Cameroon, backed by the UN, had brought African and international scientists, representatives of research agencies, and donors, government and regional organization officials to discuss the development of HIV vaccines and policies to strengthen the research potential in Africa.
With 40 million people infected with HIV in the African continent, an HIV vaccine is the need of the hour. The present status of the vaccine is that Botswana, Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa and Uganda are conducting Phase I and II trials, and a proper alliance with the sponsors of the clinical trials will quicken up the Phase III trials.
Dr. Catherine Hankins, Chief Scientific Adviser at the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), feels that this vaccine will eventually prove to be a boon for Africa. Read More: Scoop
