High blood pressure drugs may treat Alzheimer's disease!

According to the researchers at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, drugs normally used to control high blood pressure can be used to treat Alzheimer too.

During this study researchers tried to find out the effect of commonly prescribed drugs in the brain cells of animals predisposed to develop Alzheimer’s disease and concluded that anti-hypertensive drug propranolol HC1 (Inderal) was most effective in preventing beta-amyloid build-up–a feature critical in the development of Alzheimer’s disease, especially cognitive deterioration.

No doubt, this finding is very significant for the patients with Alzheimer disease but don’t you think researchers will also have to think about the bad implications that the use of these high blood pressure drugs may bring in for the patients who do not have high blood pressure symptoms.
