United Nations has set a number of goals to achieve, however, the pace seems too slow for them to be fulfilled soon. Women are suffering a lot in developing nations. As per a report issued by the World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and Population Fund (UNFPA), and the World Bank, more then half a million women loose their life while giving births. Hardcore statistics unveil that in the year 2005, some 536,000 women died of maternal causes compared to 576,000 in 1990, which indicates a sharp rise. Out of these, ninety nine percent of deaths have taken place in the developing nations.

Millennium Development Goals set by the United Nations had targeted 2015 as a deadline for many epidemics all around the globe. However, the report says that the decrease is as less as one percent. The report also said that there were,

450 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births, in stark contrast to nine in developed regions. Slightly more than one half of the maternal deaths (270,000) occurred in the sub-Saharan Africa region, followed by South Asia (188,000). Together, these two regions accounted for 86 per cent of the world’s maternal deaths in 2005.

The report actually highlights the dire need of working towards the aims and healthcare sector.
