Healthcare System in Turkey

The government in Turkey owns and manages around 55 per cent of Turkey’s healthcare facilities. The rest of the hospitals are operated by private organizations, universities and foreign companies.

As private investors entered the healthcare market since early 1990’s, the private sector investments doubled that of public within the last decade. Currently there are 305 private hospitals making up 7 per cent of outpatients and 16 per cent of inpatients of Turkey’s total capacity.

Quality of Healthcare in Turkey

Turkey is currently seeking European Union membership, and will be set to join the coalition by 2014. To prepare, Turkey has invested a lot of money and effort in conducting and implementing strict standards to have the highest level of quality medical care in both government and private healthcare organizations. The local Ministry of Health is in charge of regulating and making sure of all facilities and providers comply with these standards and guidelines.

Medical facilities catering to foreign patients contain latest medical technologies and have board-certified staff with the majority of them receiving the training abroad. The high level of quality is demonstrated as Turkey has 35 JCI accredited hospitals, the most that any country has achieved. Many of the hospitals are also affiliated with the esteemed organizations in the US like Johns Hopkins and Harvard University as well.
