Are health shakes really adding to the energy level?

Is there any kind of readymade protein drinks or foods available in the market? I am not able to go for the required diet right after work out and I start feeling need for the intake of protein into my body. I have listened of some kind of protein shakes available into the market which provide required and needed amount of protein into the body. I wish to know what the different requirements of different people are. Are these heath shakes really beneficial for the people who do not get required protein right after work out?
