FDA is trying its best to ensure safety and improve its reputation. So, the laws are getting stricter. This time the pharmaceutical industry will see changes. FDA has announced that the manufacturers of vitamins, herbal pills and other dietary supplements should make sure that the product contains the labeled ingredients. The step has been taken to ensure that the supplements that reach the market are not contaminated and also the pills do contain all the mentioned ingredients. As per the market experts, most of the firms already regulate such checks.

Regulators have found that some food supplements sometimes contain unmentioned ingredients and sometimes lack the mentioned ingredients. As per the new rules, if the supplements are found adulterated or misbranded, the agency can ask the manufacturer to remove the ingredient or alter the label, file a lawsuit, seize the product and also seek criminal charges. The proceedings depend on the strength of the case. The new rule applies to all the national and international firms with effect from 24th August and can be complied till June 2008. However, experts believe that the new rule won’t be able to improve the persisting unsafe market conditions.
