According to WHO, tobacco smoking is one of the biggest health threats faced by the human society. New researches not just reconfirm the past results but provide sufficient proof to make it clear that smoking is more dangerous for our health than we previously believed. Smokers find it very difficult to quit smoking as they make it an integral part of their lifestyle and start depending on it for thinking, feeling happy and coping with stress. In the following the ill effects of cigarettes and results of new research have been discussed for your benefit.
Addiction and dependence on cigarettes
The first thing that smoking robs is fresh breath and kissing confidence. Smelling all time like smoke cannot be an attractive attribute. Apart from smelling bad your capability of smelling and tasting will get reduced as well. The reason why people get addicted to cigarettes is nicotine.
Nicotine hits your brain whenever you smoke and makes you feel good and high for a short period of time. When its effect wears of you start craving the happy feeling once more and smoke another cigarette. The stress hormone cortisone reduces the feel good impact of nicotine which makes it necessary for smokers to smoke more than they usually do.
Risk of health loss and death
The smoke of tobacco contains more than 4,000 chemicals. The World Health Organization has estimated that every year an approximate 5.4 million people die due to the use of tobacco. Smoking can affect your eye sight, cause macular degeneration and cataract. Attempts to quit smoking can also affect the cognitive system and make you feel irritated or nervous.
Cigarette contains different types of toxins like carcinogens, carbon monoxide, tar, ammonia, hydrogen cyanide, arsenic, nicotine, DDT and formaldehyde. These toxins can thicken your blood and heighten the chances of blood clotting plus heart dysfunctions. Smoking also increases the chances of brain stroke by 50%.
Due to smoking continuously, a big bulge may form inside the blood vessels and when the bulge bursts, there will be very little chance of survival. Smoking for many years may lead to serious respiratory problem called chronic obtrusive pulmonary disease. Some of the lung diseases that you may incur by smoking are asthma, pneumonia, chronic cough and emphysema. Smoking increases risk of carcinoma in parts involved with the act like mouth and lungs.
Even the reproductive system can be badly affected by smoking. Excessive smoking restricts blood flow to the sex organs which may lead to erectile dysfunction. In women smoking may lead to pre-mature menopause and problem in conceiving.
Scary results of new research
According to the results of a new study in USA every year 60,000 people die due to cigarette smoking. Cigarette is nothing but tobacco mixed with other harmful substances and wrapped in paper. Scientists have found that at least five dire diseases along with 12 types of cancers can affect the health of smokers.
The scientists have followed the health reports of one million people including 89,000 smokers for 10 years to draw these terrifying conclusions. They have confirmed that smoking increases the chances of intestinal diseases, kidney disease and risks of infection considerably. Researchers have also informed that people who smoke regularly are likely to die 15 years before those who do not smoke. The results of the new study may not change the pervious list of 21 diseases but it has opened new ways of further research on this matter.
Smoking is extremely injurious for human health and new research has reestablished this to be true. Scientists have found smoking can be the indirect cause of diseases like lung cancer, coronary heart disease, chronic bronchitis and it also reduces life span by a decade or more.
