Essential oils have been used from the ancient days for healing and skin rejuvenation. Each of the essential oils has many different uses. There is evidence that these oils were used as medicines and healing agents even 4,500 years ago. You too can reap the benefits of using essential oils by making them a part of your daily skin care regime. In many skin care products the essential oils are used for cell regeneration and skin nourishment.

Our skin produces oil as well. The sebum glands make oil, which comes out through the pores in our skin. Our skin loses the natural oil when we wash our face with harsh chemicals and soaps. That is why using essential oils and making it a part of our regular skin care is necessary. Essential oils are also used in aromatherapy.

There are two different types of oils, which are carrier oils and essential oils. The carrier oils are made from the seeds, kernels and nuts. Almond oil, avocado oil, olive oil and sunflower oil are examples of carrier oil. The essential oils are made from the leaves, barks, roots, flowers and some other essential parts of a tree. Each of these oils has a signature aroma of its own.

However, essential oils cannot be used directly on the skin because they are very potent and reacts with the skin. You have to mix the essential oil with carrier oil before applying it directly on the skin. Essential oils have therapeutic properties unlike the fragrance or perfume oils.

You can use sweet almond oil for removing your makeup. It is not just a cleaning agent but also keeps wrinkles at bay. Lavender oil is effective on sunburns, burn marks and cell rejuvenation. Lemon oil is great for cleaning your oily skin and brings back the glow of your facial skin.

Geranium oil suits most skin types and it is widely used as a cleaning agent. It also helps in making your skin glow and improves blood circulation. Mature women can use rosemary for tightening loose skin and the open pores. You can make a simple face pack at home using almond oil, honey, rose essential oil and a little bit of vitamin e oil. Keep the pack on your face and neck for 15 minutes and then rinse.

Summary:

Essential oils can be used for moisturizing, cleaning and rejuvenating the facial skin. You can also use few drops of essential oils in your bathing water for feeling fresh.
