Effective home based remedies for yellow nails

Applying nail polish constantly without giving some fresh breathing air to them can make the nails yellow and dry. Yellowing of nails is quite a common problem, however, not a serious one. It is always advised to keep the nails nail polish-free for a few days to get their natural shine back. However, a few home based remedies and you can have your shiny nails back.Many use chemical lotions or gels to make their nails shine. However, they are harmful and should not be used for a long time. Some of the organic remedies mentioned below can do the trick equally good.

Baking soda:

It is one of the most popular and effective remedies to make the nails shine. Mix a little amount of baking soda with water. Mix well to make it a paste. Soak the fingernails in this paste for a few minutes.

Baking soda has a bleaching effect. Hence, the way it works wonders on your stained clothes, similarly, it removes the yellowish tinge on the nails. This process can be repeated whenever you find your nails turning yellow. It does not have any side effects. Apart from making the nails become de-yellow, it also helps the nail regain their shine.

Hydrogen Peroxide:

If you do not have access to baking soda, then you can try Hydrogen Peroxide. It is safe and is available at the local pharmacy. You need to immerse your hands in hydrogen peroxide for a few minutes.

Repeat this task for a few days consecutively to see the effect.

Lemon Juice:

Lemon is acidic in nature. The way it lightens the skin or hair, similarly it lightens the nails too. It is a natural remedy and makes your nails white and shiny. The fruit contains high proportion of acid, which removes the yellow stains from the nails.

Applying the juice on the nails for a few days can show the effects.

Tea Tree Oil:

Tea tree oil can be used as a natural antiseptic. It cleans the nails and makes them healthy too. Moreover, since it is an antiseptic, it helps in removing infection of the nails, if any. This oil should be applied regularly to the nails for 2-3 months. Moreover, its regular use keeps the nails from turning yellow too. Hence, this medicinal liquid can be used as a preventive to the problem of yellow nails.

You should not apply nail polish too frequently on your nails. However, if it is a necessity then, these remedies will help you maintain the natural texture and shine of your nails.
